TEESSHIPS
A FAVOURITE SHIP
LUNESDALE

On 5 September 1965 the veteran suction hopper-dredger LUNESDALE was the third ship I saw, but the first I photographed during my first ever visit to Merseyside, when I much enjoyed a 2 week holiday staying in New Brighton.
My next visit, for a similar period, was in 1967 and on the 11 July 1967 I took the above photograph of the LUNESDALE still hard at work mid-river. In those days before telephoto lenses came into my equipment, the image filled only one third of the 35mm negative frame.
Owned by R. Abel & Sons Ltd. and registered at Lancaster, the LUNESDALE was 562gt and dated from the start of the century having been built at Kinderdijk in 1901. She had been renamed from LAGA in 1956. Although I did not know it she was within months of ending her long life of 67 years, being broken up early in 1968.
23.03.08 .... and about time I added my Box Brownie 1965 shot of Smokey Joe LUNESDALE!
