On Saturday, 3 December 1960 I saw my personal sighting new ship no. 12. The vessel was the ROOIBOK and was my introduction to the Springbok Line. The subsequent viewing of all 6 ships in their fleet in a relatively short period of time, coupled with the short-lived nature of the company itself eventually proved quite fascinating to me.
It needed a bit of a prod to get me digging, but I was delighted to have the results of my research published in Issue Number 4 of SHIPS IN FOCUS RECORD for October 1997. For anyone interested, copies are still available at a cost of £6.00 and can be ordered through sales@shipsinfocus.co.uk .
To celebrate the 41st anniversary of this sighting I am pleased to now be able to present the text of my article, together with a selection of photographs (there were others featured in the published article).
