TEESSHIPS
WELLER SHOWCASE
Albert Weller of Redcar was a long-serving member of the Teesside Ship Society (Teesside Branch of the World Ship Society) who, sadly, died in 1981. He had been quite a prolific photographer of the north-east coast shipping scene for something over 20 years and, fortunately, he bequeathed his photographic collection to the Society.
This comprised several photograph albums, numerous negatives, together with some slides. I was designated custodian of the albums and negatives and over the years myself and others in the Society have spent quite a lot of time identifying the prints and negatives, with a fairly high degree of success. Sadly, it seems not all his excellent prints have an accompanying negative.
Apart from being in the Society archives to be browsed through by members from time to time, this quite valuable (in terms of shipping interest) collection has lain largely unused over recent years. More recently Derek Hinds has also been cataloguing Albert's slides and transferred that collection onto disk as a permanent record.
Now, through the medium of this website, I feel it is time to give some of Albert's photographs a more public airing. I hope you will like them. Below continues a TEESSHIPS series which began several years ago now.
