A FAVOURITE SHIP
KAMBODIA
Any classification of favourite ship must include the first one I photographed!!

I have, of course, featured it before - but a long time ago! Then, I said:
DARE I?
Well, folks, we all had to start somewhere!
This was indeed my very first photograph of any sort, taken with an old camera of my dad's. It purports to show the ANDALUSIAN (left) and KAMBODIA (right) in Middlesbrough Dock on 15 April 1961.
Although of extremely poor quality (I believe I have managed to improve slightly over the years) and "for the record" only, it remains precious in my memories.
For the historians, the KAMBODIA, 10461gt, owned by East Asiatic, was launched as the BRANDENBURG at Copenhagen in 1943 intended, I believe, for German owners. Completed in 6.1947 having become the KAMBODIA the previous year. In 1969 sold and renamed LINDA CLAUSEN; 1974 AL MESSILAH; 1981 MUKAIRISH ALTHALETH; (to be completed...)
Since then the history of THE EAC FLEET by Ole Stig
Johannesen has been published and allows me to fill in the gaps!
Launched 1943 for Hamburg-Amerika Linie, Hamburg. ... 1969 converted to
livestock carrier following sale to become LINDA CLAUSEN. ... 1985 broken up at
Qinhuandao, China.
The ANDALUSIAN, 3913gt, was a product of Wm Gray at Hartlepool in 6.1950. Renamed CITY OF ELY in 1962 while still with Ellerman's and reverted to ANDALUSIAN in 1964. Sold and renamed CAPETAN ANDREAS P in 1966; damaged by fire 1.1974.
And, yes, you can see what the KAMBODIA really
looked like at:
