(and TULIPFIELD)

TULIPBANK at Hartlepool on 27 February 1977

First sighted alongside CLAN MACLEOD, River Clyde, 22 June 1964
TULIPBANK (5370503), [in 1964] owned by Barclay, Curle & Co. Ltd., registered Liverpool, later in 1964 by Elderslie Tank & Boiler Cleaning Co.; and from 1975 by Kelvin Beacon Ltd.; 478gt, completed Cook, Welton & Gemmell Ltd., Beverley, 12-1942. Designated as Oil sludge ship (later oil sludge carrier), converted 1952. 1979 broken up (at Hartlepool).
These basic details in my records, extracted from Lloyd's Register, do not, however, tell the full story. Many will recognise the TULIPBANK as having the familiar profile of an Isles Class trawler, so her early career needs to be added. Her fuller details are found in the book on COOK, WELTON & GEMMELL (Michael Thompson and others):
Yard no. 699, ordered 24.10.1941, laid down 11.4.1942, launched 16.7.1942, completed 18.11.1942 (not then as per LR!) as Isles Class trawler NEAVE (pennant no. T247), for The Admiralty. Redesignated as wreck dispersal vessel (DV14) in 1946 (A342 from 1948); 1.7.1951 sold to British Wheeler Process Ltd., Liverpool, and renamed TULIPBANK. Sold to Barclay, Curle in 1964. They also detail other changes in subsequent ownership which I missed!
For interest I also add:

TULIPFIELD, Birkenhead, 10 September 1965
TULIPFIELD, British Wheeler Process Ltd., Liverpool, 390gt, completed Hamburg 1922, ex Nordland-48. 1965 broken up.
A veteran in the last throes of her active life. Listed as an Oil Sludge Ship, converted trawler, converted salvage ship.
In my early days I also saw the TULIPDALE and TULIPGLEN which, I think, we also converted Isle Class.
