TEESSHIPS
A FAVOURITE
SHIP
ASCANIUS

The ASCANIUS outward bound from the Tees on 5 October 1975
..... and 'bent' .....

closer detail of the foremast head - which remained bent for the rest of her life!
An extremely rare sighting of a true Blue Flue in the River Tees! A ship I saw under three of her various names - twice as ASCANIUS, and also as MASTURA (and I probably have other photos under those names, if I stirred myself!!)
ASCANIUS (5026607), China Mutual Steam Nav. Co. Ltd. (Blue Funnel Line Ltd.), Liverpool, 7431gt, completed Harland & Wolff Ltd., Belfast, 11-1950; ex AKOSOMBO-73, ex ASCANIUS-72. 1976 sold and renamed MASTURA (Saudi Arabia), 1978 broken up.
I've just discovered I also have this scanned bow angle view:

Not now sure where this came from, as I don't think it's actually mine! It seems to show the ship upriver, possibly off the dock cut leading into Middlesbrough Dock. It may be a photo I have taken by the late Jack Appleton, but I'm really not sure.
