A FAVOURITE SHIP

TAXIARCHIS

No, this ship does not feature in my personal records, but it has to be added to my Favourites! As I state elsewhere: The stranding of the TAXIARCHIS at Redcar also stands out in my mind, I do remember going to see it with my dad, and being able to walk right round the wreck. In actual fact, this incident virtually coincided with that of the FLYING ENTERPRISE, the stranding being on 14 January 1952.

I'm also grateful to George for the career details of a locally built ship which ended her days on a local beach!

1918 GRELCALDY, Dulcia Steam Shipping (J.C.Gould), Cardiff.
1925 The Derwen Shipping Co. (D.G.Hall), Cardiff.
1931 TAXIARCHIS, Lemos Brothers, Chios.
Wrecked on the West Scar Rocks, Redcar on 14/1/1952. Leith for the Black Sea in ballast.
