A FAVOURITE SHIP
ZWALUW
Among a spate of interesting photos showing on Riversea
International (George Robinson) [see LINKS page] is this view by Charlie Hill
of the ZWALUW on the River Ouse.
This reminded me of my own view of this veteran!
ZWALUW in Middlesbrough Dock on 19 August 1965
ZWALUW: Netherlands, 190gt, completed at Groningen 11-1929,
ex Anna-61, ex Kieldiep-53, ex Arma-38. 1967 BARRACUDA (Netherlands)
and converted to sport fishing vessel, 1982 sold for use as houseboat and,
by 1989, renamed ANNA, 1990 SEAN O'REILLY and still lying at Amsterdam
in 1993.
Other interesting particulars recorded in the WSS Carebeka
history are that from 1941-45 the KIELDIEP was under German control and operating
in Norwegian waters; as ZWALUW on 4.8.1962 she experienced engine trouble
during bad weather and had to be towed into Delfzijl by the tug WOTAN; on
6.9.1962 she rescued the 8 crew members from the German coaster LA PALOMA
which was on fire and took her in tow.
